TYPES OF INHERITANCE


ANCESTRAL, COPARCENERY & SELF ACQUIRED PROPERTY

Ancestral Property:

  • The Property inherited upto four generations of Male lineage, which means father, grandfather, great grandfather & great great grandfather.
  • The Property should have remained undivided till the fourth generation upwards.

Coparcenery Property:

  • The property inherited upto three generation of male lineage i.e. father, grandfather & great grandfather.

Self Acquired Property:

  • The Property purchased by an individual out of his/her own resources.
  • The Property acquired as a part of partition of any ancestral/ coparcenery property.
  • The Property acquired as a legal heir
  • The Property acquired by an testamentary document such as Will and Gift.

When ancestral property becomes self acquired property?

  • When an ancestral property divided through partition or family arrangement.

When self acquired property becomes ancestral property?

  • If an self acquired property thrown into the pool of ancestral properties & enjoyed in common.
